Moldovan journalists request political asylum to the USA

Journalists working for Jurnalul de Chişinău and Jurnal TV filed a request for political asylum to the US Ambassador in Republic of Moldova, The Honorable Asif J. Chaudhry. The request was made for all their employees.

Their request which has been signed by them states:

"Starting from the point where one of our colleagues, while he was doing his job, was brutally beaten by the security forces, being seized his camera, taking into account the fact that the Interior Ministry did not invalidate the announcement that two of our colleagues are prosecuted, the editorial offices of Jurnal de Chişinău and Jurnalul TV, we consider that an unprecedented terror against free press has been released in the Republic of Moldova.

Taking into account that the secret plan made by the communist government seeking to physically eliminate all the democratic bodies may lead to the abolition of liberties gained with the Proclamation of Independence of Republic of Moldova, that our lives are threatened because of our political beliefs and democratic choices,

Taking into account all the points presented above,

Dear Honorable Asif J. Chaudhry, the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Moldova,

We kindly ask you to attentively examine our request for political asylum to the United States of America."
